Progress Report

The GUSA Student Commission for Unity, SCU, has made great strides in the past six months. One of the newest groups at Georgetown they are striving to make changes within the student community and change our Hoya family for the better. The organization has polled over 1,500 students about bias, racial, and segregation issues and uncovered facts that have never been shown before, such as “76.2% of Hoyas believe Georgetown has a self segregation problem”. The SCU is studying problems that students have been aware of for years, but have been too timid to address. This forward thinking organization can see the changes that need to be made and they are taking the time to make the appropriate changes. While this group is still small it is excited about the possibilities of expansion and getting more of the Georgetown community involved. With the survey process behind them the SCU is anxious to move forward and transform the Georgetown now, into the Georgetown that they know is possible. This year will be a year of growth and change for this organization and it seems more than promising.
